BLACK STARS EXTEND WINLESS RUN AFTER 2-0 LOSS TO SUDAN IN AFCON QUALIFIER

< 1 mn read

The Black Stars of Ghana’s winless streak extended to four matches following a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday, October 15, at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.

This latest loss leaves Ghana in a challenging position as they struggle to secure a spot in the AFCON tournament. Despite a single change to the lineup—bringing Iñaki Williams in for Jordan Ayew—the switch failed to ignite the team’s offense, with the Black Stars failing to register a shot on target in the first half despite controlling possession.

Sudan capitalized on defensive lapses in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession through Ahmed Al-Tash and Mohamed Abdelrahman, securing the win. Ghana now trails Sudan by five points in the standings, with only two games left against Angola and Niger, making qualification a steep challenge for Otto Addo’s side.
