Bishop David Oyedepo, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents of Covenant University, and founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, has shared insights into the foundational strategies that contributed to the university’s remarkable success. He revealed that he studied nine prestigious foreign universities—Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Caltech, MIT, Stanford, Duke, and Dartmouth—to inform the establishment and development of Covenant University.
In a significant achievement, Covenant University has emerged as Nigeria’s best university and ranks sixth in West Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa according to the Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 2025. This accolade was announced during the university’s 19th Convocation ceremony held on its campus in Ota, Ogun State.
Oyedepo emphasized that the insights gained from these world-class institutions were instrumental in shaping the university’s core values, leading to the creation of unique educational products. “While nothing was copied, a lot of inspiration was drawn from those studies, which eventually led to the crafting of our core values, making our products very unique,” he stated.
His passion for providing quality education stems from a desire to offer an alternative that can rescue young individuals from potential lifelong crises. “My passion came alive to provide an alternative education, in terms of quality, that would rescue these young individuals from lifelong crises,” Oyedepo remarked.
