The Benue State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by recommending the suspension of the state’s Chief Judge, Maurice Ikpambese, over serious allegations. These include abuse of office, misconduct, tampering with the state’s electoral law, mismanagement of the judiciary’s budget, and accusations of corruption and favoritism.
The assembly’s action comes after a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia, which laid out the charges against Ikpambese. The lawmakers, after deliberating on the matter, voted overwhelmingly in favor of his suspension. Now, the matter will also be forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for further investigation.
This is a big political move, as the judiciary plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness and justice. What do you think of the situation?
