BENUE APC IN TURMOIL: GOVERNOR HYACINTH ALIA ACCUSED OF UNDERMINING PEACE EFFORTS

The internal conflict between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has created a significant rift within the Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving supporters uncertain about which faction to support.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CAUCUS ACCUSES ALIA OF UNDERMINING PEACE INITIATIVES

The Benue National Assembly caucus has accused Governor Hyacinth Alia of undermining peace efforts spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu and the APC to address the party crisis in Benue State. The conflict within the APC has intensified just two months after Alia’s inauguration as governor.

SPOLKESPERSON CRITICIZES ALIA FOR REFUSAL TO ENGAGE IN PEACE TALKS

During a press briefing on September 12, Hon. Philip Agbese, spokesperson for the Benue NASS and Federal appointees caucus, expressed disappointment over Alia’s refusal to participate in peace talks. Agbese criticized the governor for allegedly disregarding President Tinubu’s efforts to restore peace within the party.

PARALLEL CANDIDATES PRODUCED AMIDST ONGOING CONFLICT

The internal strife has led to the production of parallel candidates for the upcoming local government elections. Despite interventions from the presidency, APC leadership, and the Tor Tiv, HRM Professor James Ayatse, Alia has reportedly refused to reconcile with Senator Akume.

AGBESE ACCUSES ALIA OF DISRESPECT AND DIVISION

Agbese also accused Governor Alia of showing disrespect toward prominent figures and causing divisions within the party for his own political interests. He expressed concern over Alia’s alleged tendency to operate in secrecy and manipulate situations to his advantage.

OPTIMISM FOR RESTORATION OF PEACE AND PARTY STRENGTH

Despite the ongoing turmoil, Agbese expressed optimism that peace would eventually be restored. He assured party members that the APC remains strong in Benue, with all National Assembly members from the state committed to securing victory in future elections under the guidance of Senator Akume.
