Doyinsola David, a former Big Brother Naija star, recently discussed her detachment from the everyday realities of life in Nigeria during an interview with media personality Olufemi Daniel on his podcast. She candidly admitted to being out of touch with the cost of living, stating that she doesn’t know the prices of goods in the country because she sends her chef to do the shopping and doesn’t inquire about prices.
In her own words, she expressed empathy for Nigerians facing economic hardships, acknowledging that she hears about the country’s challenges but doesn’t experience them directly. Reflecting on a visit to a market in Ogba, where she was moved to tears witnessing the struggles of ordinary people, she described how people reacted to sums like N50,000 as if it were a large amount, highlighting the severity of economic difficulties.
Despite her detachment, Doyinsola shared a critical perspective on Nigeria’s leadership and the lack of concern for citizens’ welfare. She criticized what she perceives as inadequate governance and advised Nigerians to strive for self-sufficiency. She also suggested that those who have the opportunity should consider relocating abroad.
Her remarks underscore the disparity between different socioeconomic realities within Nigeria and reflect broader concerns about governance, economic hardship, and the everyday challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
