A Bayelsa hotelier and owner of Euphemie Motel in Opu-Nembe, Nembe Local Government Area, has threatened to sue the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun over unpaid debts incurred by the Police SWAT team. The SWAT unit, led by CSP Silas Adebayo, reportedly occupied the hotel without permission during a sting operation ahead of the last governorship elections in the state.

The hotel’s legal counsel, Inemoye Brown, in a letter addressed to the IGP and Police Service Commission, stated that the SWAT team had been occupying the 50-room hotel and using its facilities since August 12, 2023, without paying. The debt, which includes lodging fees and conference room usage, now totals N625,000,000.

The hotelier’s lawyer has given the police six weeks to vacate the property and settle the debt or face legal action. The hotel’s facilities, according to the letter, have suffered significant damage, and a complete renovation is required to restore normal operations.
