“Bauchi Government Commits to Boosting Tuberculosis Funding and Resources Amid Relegation Concerns”

The Bauchi State Government has pledged to enhance funding and improve resource management for Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment in response to previous neglect.
During an advocacy visit by Langa Women Development Initiative, State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, Aminu Hamayyo, emphasized the government’s renewed focus on TB through strategic planning and financial support.
Hamayyo acknowledged that TB management had been sidelined compared to other public health issues and committed to increasing budgetary allocations for TB programs.
The Commissioner assured that the government would ensure timely release of funds essential for TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, as well as capacity building for healthcare workers.
Collaboration with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders will be strengthened to improve TB care and ensure optimal use of resources.
Dr. Adamu Sambo, State Commissioner for Health, promised consistent availability of TB drugs and diagnostic equipment, addressing logistical issues, and improving coordination with CSOs.
Amb. Grace Maikudi of Langa Women Development Initiative highlighted the need for specific funding allocation to prevent delays in TB control activities.
Dr. Yakubu Gida of BACATMA provided an overview of TB prevalence in Bauchi, noting a significant number of undetected cases, and outlined current TB care infrastructure, including DOT centres and diagnostic facilities.

This commitment aims to address the gap in TB management and improve health outcomes in Bauchi State.
