In a significant effort to alleviate poverty and hunger, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has launched a N500 million fund aimed at supporting two million needy Nigerians. The announcement was made by Hon. Ismaila Yusuf Atus, Executive Chairman of the organization, on Sunday.

The initiative seeks to address the severe hunger and hardship faced by many Nigerians, particularly in light of the rising fuel prices that have exacerbated existing challenges. Atus emphasized the need for urgent measures to reduce the suffering of citizens and acknowledged the government’s ongoing efforts while stressing that more is needed.

The fund will provide critical assistance to vulnerable individuals and families across the country. Atus called on the government to take immediate action to alleviate the hardships experienced by many, stating that existing initiatives are insufficient to meet the growing needs of the population.

In the official statement, Atus expressed, “Given the current challenges in the country, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has decided to assist Nigerians who are struggling with poverty by raising N500 million to help two million people. The hunger is severe, and the rising fuel prices have only added to the hardships. Many people can no longer afford to feed themselves properly.”

He further urged NGOs, business leaders, and wealthy individuals to unite in supporting communities in need, saying, “I urge those of us with NGOs to unite and support our communities. We also call on the government to take measures to alleviate the suffering in our nation. While we acknowledge that the government is doing its best and that many initiatives were in place before this administration took over, we still urge them to work towards reducing the hardships faced by citizens.”

Atus appealed to affluent Nigerians to step forward during this critical time, emphasizing the importance of sharing resources to assist those in need. He remarked, “It is essential for the wealthy to share their resources and assist those in need. Additionally, we call on business leaders and politicians not to hoard their wealth in bank accounts while the populace suffers.”
