The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Okitipupa Chapter of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Ondo State, has strongly condemned the dismissal of five union members from universities in Lagos, Kogi, and Ebonyi states. Dr. Rotimi Olorunisola, ASUU Chairman of the OAUSTECH chapter, criticized the Governing Councils of Lagos State University (LASU), Kogi State University (KSU), and Ebonyi State University (EBSU) for what he described as the “illegal” and unjust sacking of these lecturers.

Olorunisola emphasized that the actions of these institutions violated the due process required for the termination of academic staff and were an assault on the autonomy of the academic profession. He argued that it was unacceptable for lecturers, who are dedicated to knowledge, research, and nation-building, to be treated with such disdain.

ASUU views these dismissals as an attempt to undermine academic freedom and silence those working tirelessly to maintain high educational standards in Nigeria. The union stated that the governing councils acted in direct contravention of established labor laws, university statutes, and principles of natural justice.

ASUU demands the immediate reinstatement of all lecturers wrongfully dismissed and calls on the Federal Government, state authorities, and other stakeholders in the education sector to intervene promptly to correct this injustice. Olorunisola warned that if the situation is not rectified, ASUU would escalate its actions to defend the rights and dignity of all academic staff in the country.
