The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa Chapter in Ondo State, has strongly condemned the dismissal of five ASUU members from several universities.

Dr. Rotimi Olorunisola, ASUU Chairman for the OAUSTECH chapter, revealed to journalists in Okitipupa that lecturers were “illegally” dismissed by the Governing Councils of Lagos State University (LASU), Kogi State University (KSU), and Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

Olorunisola criticized these actions as violations of due process and assaults on the autonomy of the academic profession. He expressed disapproval over the treatment of lecturers who are dedicated to knowledge, research, and nation-building, asserting that their dismissal undermines academic freedom and aims to silence those who uphold educational standards in Nigeria.

The ASUU Chairman stated that the governing councils acted against established labor laws, university statutes, and principles of natural justice. He emphasized that ASUU will not tolerate the unlawful victimization of its members and their rights being trampled.

Olorunisola demanded the immediate reinstatement of the wrongfully dismissed lecturers and called on the Federal Government, state authorities, and education sector stakeholders to intervene swiftly to address this injustice. He declared that ASUU would remain united in the fight for justice and defend the rights and dignity of academic staff across the country.

He warned that if the situation is not rectified, ASUU would have no choice but to escalate actions in defense of their members’ rights. Olorunisola affirmed that ASUU would not be intimidated or suppressed by actions that disregard the rule of law and collective agreements governing institutions.
