Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ breaks streaming records on Spotify Nigeria

Asake’s latest album, Lungu Boy, released on August 9, 2024, has shattered streaming records on Spotify Nigeria. The album, which features collaborations with stars like Wizkid, Central Cee, Stormzy, Travis Scott, and Ludmila, achieved 5.86 million streams on its first day, setting a new record for the highest opening day streams on the platform, surpassing Davido’s Timeless.

The album also made history globally with 9.2 million streams on its first day, the most ever for a Nigerian album on Spotify. Additionally, the track ‘MMS’ from the album recorded 870,577 streams on its first day, breaking Wizkid’s previous record for the highest first-day streams for a song on Spotify Nigeria.

On its second day, Lungu Boy accumulated 3.03 million streams on Spotify Nigeria, marking the highest second-day streams for any album in 2024. It also achieved No. 1 on the Apple Music UK Chart, becoming Asake’s third album to reach that milestone, joining his previous albums Mr. Money With The Vibe and Work of Art.

Asake’s meteoric rise continues, solidifying his position as a major global artist. His debut album won Album of the Year at the 2023 Headies Awards, and his second album set a record for the longest-charting song on TurnTable Top 100.
