Asake’s latest album, Lungu Boy, has made headlines by setting a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria. Released on August 9, 2024, Lungu Boy accumulated 15.47 million streams in its first five days, surpassing the previous record of 14.4 million streams set by Davido’s Timeless.

In addition to this milestone, Lungu Boy also achieved the highest opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, with 9.2 million streams. The album’s track “MMS” set a new record for the biggest opening day streams for a single on Spotify Nigeria, reaching 870,577 streams, exceeding the previous record of 626,000 streams held by Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.

The album’s success extends beyond Spotify. On Apple Music, Lungu Boy equaled the record for the highest-charting Nigerian album in the US, matching the achievement of Wizkid’s S2 EP, Burna Boy’s I Told Them, and Davido’s Timeless. It also topped the Apple Music UK chart, marking Asake’s third album to achieve this feat, following his debut Mr. Money With The Vibe and sophomore release Work of Art.

Asake’s Lungu Boy is his third album in three years, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in the music industry.
