Following the release of his third album, Lungu Boy, Asake has embarked on a world tour, headlining notable venues including the iconic O2 Arena. The Nigerian artist recently wowed fans with a sold-out concert where he performed his hit records, attended by notable figures like Grammy winner Wizkid and actor Idris Elba. During the event, Elba presented Asake with a sold-out plaque and a BRIT silver plaque for his album Work of Art.
Asake’s album Work of Art became his second to receive a BRIT silver plaque, following his debut album Mr Money With The Vibes, which also achieved silver certification in the UK. His success in the UK is remarkable, with all three of his LPs topping the UK Apple Music Album Chart, making him the only Nigerian artist to accomplish this feat.
The sold-out show at the O2 Arena further cements Asake’s popularity in the UK, joining the ranks of fellow Afrobeats stars Davido and Wizkid, who have also headlined the venue multiple times. The O2 Arena has played a significant role in documenting the global rise of Afrobeats, with Davido being the first Nigerian solo act to headline there in 2018, followed by Wizkid’s historic performances in subsequent years.
