he Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Tinubu for intervention in the ongoing Kano royal dispute to protect the dignity of the traditional institution.

In an interview with reporters on Thursday in Abuja, the community’s Chairman, Alhaji Musa Saidu, expressed concerns over the situation.

He accused politicians of orchestrating the crisis for their personal gain, disregarding the significant harm it is causing to the esteemed Kano Emirate.

Saidu stated that the ongoing conflict does not serve the collective interests of the people of Kano State and fails to enhance the traditional institution’s value.

“Kano is a political hub of the country, and President Tinubu needs the state for his second term in 2027; therefore, he should not allow this royal dispute to escalate,” he noted.

He emphasized that the deadlock regarding the Kano Emirate throne is a significant embarrassment not only to the state but to the entire nation.

“It shows a profound disrespect for law and order as well as for the traditional institution.”

He further remarked that the frequent dethronements of emirs in the North by politicians over the past three decades indicate a deterioration of the cultural and traditional society.

The Arewa leader criticized President Tinubu’s silence on the issue as “concerning and inappropriate.”

“If former President Buhari, despite his controversies, could establish a committee to mediate and reconcile Emir Sanusi and former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020, why can’t Tinubu do the same?” he asked.
