Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former House of Representatives member for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, has downplayed concerns that the current economic hardship in Nigeria will negatively impact the APC’s prospects in the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Agbonayinma, commonly known as EJ, attributed the economic difficulties not to President Bola Tinubu but to systemic corruption that has plagued Nigeria for years. He alleged that significant corruption occurred during the administrations of previous leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari and President Olusegun Obasanjo. According to Agbonayinma, these issues have left Nigeria in a dire state, affecting its future.
Agbonayinma emphasized that while corruption is a global issue, it is particularly severe in Nigeria, where those caught in corrupt activities are often celebrated rather than prosecuted. He called for a collective effort from all patriotic Nigerians to fight corruption, asserting that preventive measures are crucial in addressing the problem effectively.
