The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) of planning to finance the upcoming local government elections in Kano State using funds diverted from local councils.
Kano State APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, made the allegations, claiming that the NNPP aims to use these funds to support selected candidates. He urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate and monitor financial transactions in the state’s local government ministry. Abbas emphasized the need for a forensic audit of the councils to prevent misuse of funds, recalling a past incident where a former governor allegedly diverted significant amounts for campaign financing.
In response, NNPP chairman Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa dismissed the claims as unfounded, highlighting the party’s commitment to transparency and the successful election outcomes achieved without a sitting governor. He noted that nomination fees for candidates have been duly paid.
