Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, also known as Fr. Ebube Muonso, has strongly expressed concerns about the killing of Hon. Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 state constituency. He believes the death of Azuka, who was kidnapped on Christmas Eve and later found dead in February, was politically motivated. Fr. Obimma urged the people of Onitsha to demand accountability from the state government regarding the death of the lawmaker.
Fr. Obimma clarified that he did not claim that Azuka’s death was specifically due to his affiliation with the Labour Party (LP), as some reports suggested. Instead, he emphasized that the killing had political undertones and warranted further investigation. He also criticized the escape of the lawmaker’s killers, calling it a planned act. In his statement, Fr. Obimma called on the Anambra State government and the police to take action to apprehend the escaped killers.
The priest also addressed misinformation spread by the Anambra State government, particularly through Governor Charles Soludo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Ejimofor Opara, who allegedly attempted to discredit Fr. Obimma by suggesting that he was promoting opposition parties. Fr. Obimma, however, clarified that his stance on the issue was not politically motivated but was rooted in his desire for truth and justice.
Fr. Obimma reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against insecurity and violence in Anambra State, condemning the growing issues of kidnapping and killings. He urged the state and well-meaning individuals to support citizens like him who advocate for fairness and truth in society.
