The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra Branch has suspended its indefinite strike, which began to protest the kidnapping of Dr. Stephen Ezeh. The decision follows Ezeh’s release from captivity on August 24.
In a statement signed by Dr. Princeton Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, the NMA expressed gratitude to those who contributed to Ezeh’s release and called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security. The association highlighted that ongoing insecurity and kidnapping were severely impacting the state’s economy and healthcare services.
Doctors are set to resume their duties starting August 25. The NMA urged the public, security agencies, and other stakeholders to support the governor in enhancing security and ensuring a safer environment for both residents and healthcare workers.
