Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has expressed profound frustration regarding Nigerians’ reaction to the escalating economic crisis and the soaring cost of living. In a recent interview with Igbere TV, he revealed his personal struggles to afford essential commodities, including diesel, due to rising prices.

Amaechi stated, “People should be angry because you cannot see a group of people stealing your money without doing anything. I am really angry with the citizens because they are not doing anything.” He emphasized the importance of civic engagement, urging Nigerian youths to take a more active role in addressing the economic challenges facing the nation.

He expressed disappointment that rather than mobilizing for protests against the high cost of living, the youth remain silent. “I expected our youth to take to the streets and protest against the high cost of living, but their silence is deafening,” he remarked.

Amaechi also criticized the timing of political campaigns, specifically referencing recent activities in Edo State. “Look at what happened in Edo State, should any politician be campaigning in Edo State while the people are struggling to afford basic necessities?” he asked. He highlighted the absurdity of political activity amidst public suffering, saying, “Some of us cannot afford to buy diesel again because it’s too costly.”

His comments reflect the growing discontent among citizens and political figures as the prices of essential goods continue to soar. Having served nearly eight years as transportation minister under Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Amaechi is now calling on the public to question the state of governance and demand accountability from their leaders.
