The Akwa Ibom State government has launched the second phase of its palliative distribution program, offering free rice, beans, and garri to indigent and vulnerable citizens impacted by the economic difficulties following the fuel subsidy removal.

The flag-off ceremony took place at the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Council Secretariat, where over 5,000 beneficiaries, including the elderly and youth, received food vouchers and collected their items.

General Manager of the Bulk Purchase Agency, Uyime Etim, stated that the agency’s role is to procure and distribute these food items to verified beneficiaries throughout the state. He mentioned that Governor Umo Eno’s Personal Assistants issued vouchers to individuals listed in the social register.

“This initiative is designed to mitigate the effects of the current economic hardship on the less fortunate,” Etim explained. “Nevertheless, the governor encourages a return to farming as a long-term solution to hunger and poverty.”

Former House of Representatives member, Aniekan Umanah, commended Governor Eno for his efforts to alleviate economic difficulties, highlighting that the distribution is fair and inclusive of all beneficiaries, regardless of political affiliation.

Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency representative, Ubong Obot, praised Governor Eno for his kindness, generosity, and compassion.

Seventy-two-year-old beneficiary Ekemini Udoh expressed gratitude, noting, “The governor’s support has brought me joy. The food items will be a great help, and I appreciate his kindness.”

This palliative distribution program underscores Governor Eno’s dedication to aiding vulnerable citizens amid economic challenges.
