Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has reiterated his commitment to creating a separate Ministry for Youth Development.

At a youth appreciation rally in Uyo, Governor Eno thanked the Akwa Ibom youth for their decision to boycott the recent nationwide protest. He highlighted the importance of strong followership in achieving effective leadership, praising the youths for heeding his call to avoid the protest due to concerns over potential disruptions and damage to government properties.

Eno revealed plans to reorganize the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, establishing a new ministry led by a commissioner under 45 years old. He also introduced a comprehensive empowerment program for 100,000 youths across 31 local government areas. The program includes business support schemes, job opportunities, and educational grants.

Key initiatives announced by the governor include:

  • A ₦20 million donation and a coaster bus for the Ibom Angels football team.
  • Creation of a youth employment database, with 60,000 youths receiving a one-time business support of ₦50,000 each.
  • Support for 10,000 youths through the ARISE Entrepreneurial Scheme.
  • Employment of 3,000 youths through the Ibom Community Watch.
  • Increased bursary support for students in public tertiary institutions.
  • Educational grants for students with disabilities.
  • An Entrepreneurial Accelerator Programme (EAP) offering a ₦500,000 grant and ₦250,000 start-up capital.
