In response to food insecurity, Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has encouraged economically challenged families to supplement government food aid with farming efforts.

This advice is intended to assist households struggling with the current economic hardships. During the distribution of free rice, beans, and garri to residents in 76 villages of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Governor Eno, represented by Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy Professor Imoh Moffat, underscored the critical role of agriculture in mitigating food crises.

Governor Eno’s administration is advancing the ‘ARISE Agenda,’ which includes:

  • Supporting Farmers: Providing agricultural inputs such as free fertilizers and improved seedlings.
  • Agricultural Acceleration: Implementing measures to ensure rapid growth in agriculture.

Governor Eno highlighted that relying solely on food palliatives is insufficient and advocated for farming as a more sustainable solution. Dr. Daniel Akpan, Chairman of the Bulk Purchase Agency, and Ekpok Eshiet, Transition Committee Chairman of Etim Ekpo LG Council, both praised the governor’s dedication to alleviating extreme hunger.

Beneficiaries, including Mr. Nse Udo, a stroke victim from Ikot Ese village, expressed gratitude for the timely support. Udo remarked, “I sincerely thank the governor for keeping his promise to support the people.”

Through this approach, the Akwa Ibom State government aims to empower households, achieve food security, and enhance overall well-being.
