The Africa Youth Growth Foundation initiated an anti-human trafficking sensitization campaign in major streets and markets, including the Oba Market and New Benin Market, in Benin City, Edo State, yesterday. This initiative aims to raise awareness and combat human trafficking in all its forms.
Leading the campaign, Programme Manager Adams Omoba introduced the Reintegration, Empowerment, and Sensitisation for Trafficking In Persons Programme (RESTIPP), designed to support victims of human trafficking, particularly women. He emphasized the importance of reintegrating victims, providing vocational skills training, and offering psycho-social support to help them overcome traumatic experiences.
Omoba outlined the project’s components, which include training, counselling, and seeking legal redress for victims facing legal challenges upon their return. The RESTIPP project, funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC), has a six-month duration and specifically targets Benin City due to its significant issues with trafficking.
The campaign is a collaborative effort with NAPTIPP, marking the climax of the sensitization activities aimed at educating the public about the dangers of human trafficking. Obi Onyebuchi, representing the Benin Zonal Command, reiterated the need for awareness and action against human trafficking, highlighting its dangers and the importance of community involvement in addressing this pressing issue
