The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has projected significant changes to Abuja by the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term in 2027, attributing this transformation to extensive infrastructural development.
Wike made this statement during the inauguration of the upgrading of War College/Army Checkpoint Road and other ancillary roads in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, on Monday. He emphasized that by the conclusion of this administration, Abuja would be markedly different in terms of infrastructure.
Beyond the capital itself, Wike highlighted that the area councils are also undergoing transformation, with more than 15 projects currently in progress. He noted that three additional projects are slated for inauguration in satellite towns.
“When we came on board, I did say that under Tinubu’s administration, when he makes a promise, all you need to do is be patient; that promise would be fulfilled,” Wike stated. He emphasized the importance of accountability, urging citizens to hold their elected officials responsible for their commitments.
Wike challenged skeptics of the Tinubu administration’s accomplishments, insisting that the achievements in the six area councils over the past year are verifiable facts rather than propaganda. “This is just one year and a few months. Mr. President has been in office, but see what he has done in terms of infrastructure in area councils,” he remarked, prompting speculation about the potential advancements by the end of Tinubu’s four-year term.
In addition to road infrastructure, Wike revealed that the Tinubu-led government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese company to provide potable water to the Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Kuje area councils. He urged residents of the FCT to support the Tinubu administration in its efforts to benefit the people.
Wike clarified that the project to upgrade the War College/Army Checkpoint Road and related roads began prior to the current administration. The 18-kilometer road project, awarded to Abdul Val Limited on September 28, is expected to be completed within 18 months. Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made and the commitment of local contractors to the project, reflecting Tinubu’s directive to empower indigenous contractors who demonstrate capacity and willingness to work.
