The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning against the production of fake drugs and beverages, stressing that these actions harm the state’s reputation. Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, revealed that the government will be ramping up enforcement with the help of security agencies to curb these illegal activities.
In addition to tackling this issue, the state government is focused on transforming Umuahia, the state capital, into a “smart city.” This initiative includes various urban renewal and beautification projects, such as relocating illegal traders from the Isigate market to Okwulaga-Afara. The relocation is aimed at decongesting the city center to facilitate the construction of a new bus terminal and other transport and beautification developments. The government has already acquired land for the new market, compensated the landowners, and is currently working on building a perimeter fence.
These steps reflect the government’s commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure and urban planning, making Umuahia more modern and accessible.
