The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has announced the timetable for the upcoming local council elections, set for Saturday, November 2, 2024.
During the unveiling at ABSIEC’s headquarters in Umuahia, Chairman Professor George Chima outlined key dates. Party primaries will take place between September 25 and October 4, with political parties required to submit their candidates from October 5 to 7.
Candidate screening will be held from October 8 to 10, followed by an appeals process from October 11 to 12. Substitutions and screenings of substituted candidates will occur on October 14 and 15, with the final list of candidates published on October 16. Election campaigns will run from October 18 to 31.
Professor Chima reassured stakeholders that ABSIEC would maintain neutrality and ensure a free, fair, and credible election. He urged political parties to adhere to the timetable and cooperate with the commission for a smooth election process.
