< 1 mn read

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Okey Kanu, announced during a press briefing in Umuahia that the resumption date for schools across Abia State has been postponed from Monday, September 16, to Wednesday, September 23. The postponement is attributed to a coinciding Muslim holiday.

KEY POINTS:

  1. RESUMPTION DATE POSTPONED: Schools will now resume on Wednesday, September 23, instead of the originally scheduled date of Monday, September 16.
  2. TEACHER TRAINING SCHEDULE: The second batch of teacher training will start on September 11 and conclude on September 20. This training will take place simultaneously at three centers: Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia, targeting 1,800 teachers.
  3. TRANSFORMATION AGENDA: The training is part of the current administration’s ongoing transformation agenda in the education sector. The first batch of training involved over 200 teachers and was part of the preparations for the new school year.
  4. LAND REGISTRATION MORATORIUM: The state government has granted a 90-day moratorium for property owners in Aba to register their lands at the old rate, encouraging compliance with registration requirements.

CONCLUSION: The adjustments to the school resumption schedule and the upcoming teacher training are part of Abia State’s broader efforts to enhance educational standards and streamline administrative processes. The moratorium on land registration also aims to support property owners in fulfilling regulatory obligations.
