The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its unwavering stance regarding the vacation of seats by former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party clarified that it was not under any pressure to compromise its position in court. It emphasized that the lawmakers ceased to be members of the assembly from December 11, 2023, the date they publicly announced their defection. The PDP maintained this position in response to speculation suggesting attempts to compromise its stance and facilitate the return of the lawmakers to their seats.

The party reaffirmed its position through a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, asserting that the former lawmakers had committed a constitutional breach and had lost their seats accordingly. The PDP referenced its Counter Claim filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, supported by judicial precedents, to underscore its position.
