Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, addressed Vinicius Jr.’s penalty miss during their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Vinicius missed a penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappe in the second half at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Despite the miss, Real Madrid triumphed 4-2 in the penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw on aggregate.
Ancelotti explained the situation in his post-match interview, saying that it had already been decided that Vinicius would take the penalty, but unfortunately, he missed. Regarding Vinicius’ substitution during extra-time, Ancelotti noted that the forward requested to come off because he was extremely fatigued, adding that Vinicius was not going to take a penalty in the shootout anyway.
Real Madrid, now advancing to the quarter-finals, will face Arsenal in April. They will next play Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday.
