The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended its candidate for the November 16, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, Olugbenga Edema, and his running mate, Rotimi Adeyemi, along with a chieftain of the party, Isreal Ayeni. The suspension, which is indefinite, was announced during a meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Akure, the state capital.
According to Pastor Peter Olagookun, the NNPP chairman in Ondo State, the suspension was due to their involvement in anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution. Olagookun emphasized that Edema took the party to court without first exhausting the internal dispute resolution mechanisms as outlined in the party’s constitution. He criticized the action of suing the party without seeking resolution from the appropriate stakeholders at both the state and national levels.
The chairman also referenced the party’s constitutional guidelines, which prohibit such actions and stressed the importance of following the internal processes for resolving disputes before resorting to legal action.
