It looks like a significant ruling was made by the Federal High Court in Lagos regarding the assets of Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The court has ordered the final forfeiture of $4.7 million, N830 million, and several properties tied to Emefiele. These funds were being held in various bank accounts across institutions like First Bank, Titan Bank, and Zenith Bank, and were linked to several individuals and companies, including Deep Blue Energy Service Limited and Exactquote Bureau De Change Ltd, among others.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed the forfeiture request, and the decision to have the assets forfeited to the federal government marks an important step in ongoing legal proceedings related to Emefiele.
This case is a part of the EFCC’s wider efforts to tackle corruption, money laundering, and illicit financial activities in Nigeria.
