Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr recently revealed her dating preferences during an interview with American singer Coco Jones for Rolling Stone. Although she has never been in a fully committed relationship, Ayra shared that when she eventually starts dating, it will not be someone from the music industry.

Laughing, she stated, “In the dream world, it wouldn’t be somebody that is in the industry. Probably just like a billionaire. On a yacht. In Dubai. In a thong,” referencing a viral social media trend about living a carefree, luxurious life. This humorous response reflects her desire for a different kind of relationship than what she has witnessed in the music world.

Discussing her high standards for potential partners, Ayra expressed her relief that she didn’t date much before launching her music career. “I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t really know what I was missing. So now that I waited this long to date people, I have very high standards. If it’s gonna be hard to meet it, it’s gonna be bye-bye. But also, I don’t have time for myself; talk less of a boy,” she explained.

In a previous interview with Dazed Magazine in September 2024, Ayra Starr shared her longing for love, mentioning, “I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was.” Despite identifying as a “lover girl” at heart, she candidly admitted, “I actually have never been in love…I’ve been in certain situations—not situationships!—but I’ve never been in a fully committed relationship.”

Ayra’s candidness about her dating life and standards highlights her focus on personal growth and her aspirations within the music industry, while also expressing a genuine desire for love and connection in the future.
