More than 770 households in Benue State have been displaced by severe flooding due to the rising water level of the River Benue, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Aondowase Kunde, reported on Friday in Makurdi. Kunde, who also chairs the Flood and Disaster Management Committee, said that Makurdi was the most affected area.

In Makurdi alone, approximately 770 households were forced to relocate, with 520 families now sheltered at NKST Primary School Wadata and 250 at Gaadi Comprehensive Secondary School. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been supplying the displaced individuals with food, mattresses, containers, and rice.

Kunde expressed hope that receding water levels would allow people to return to their homes by next week. The governor has ordered another assessment to determine the habitability of the affected areas. Some homes may require fumigation due to potential infestations by dangerous reptiles and insects, and flood-damaged structures will undergo necessary repairs before residents can return.
