The Kano State Government announced a state-wide movement restriction from midnight to 6 p.m. on Saturday to ensure a peaceful and orderly Local Government election. This measure, disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, aims to safeguard lives and property during the voting process.

Dantiye stated that only essential personnel, including election officials, security officers, and accredited journalists, will be exempt from the restriction. He urged residents to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies, advising citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully without disrupting the election.

Security forces are on high alert across the state, with checkpoints set up to monitor compliance. Prof. Lawal Malumfashi, Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), confirmed that the commission is prepared to conduct credible elections across Kano’s 44 local government areas, encouraging voter participation. Political parties involved in the election include Action Alliance, Zenith Labour Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party, among others.

Malumfashi emphasized that the movement restriction is a proactive measure to prevent violence and ensure a safe environment for voters.
