In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Women Working With Children Conference is set to hold its 6th edition, aimed at refreshing and empowering women in their vital roles within families and communities.
Co-conveners Mr. Taiwo Akinlami and Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akinlami announced that the event has consistently attracted thousands of participants and hosted distinguished women who serve as inspirational figures in various fields.
“Our extensive work with children over the past three decades, across Africa and North America, has underscored the importance of these roles,” said Mr. Akinlami. “Each edition of the conference focuses on supporting women as they lead efforts in Family Strengthening, creating a Friendly and Protective Environment for Children®, and promoting Rights-Based Parenting.”
This year’s conference will spotlight the theme: “S.A.F.E for Children According to Play & Recreation: Empowering Women’s Leadership to Foster Resilient Children Through Play and Recreation, Shaping a Brighter Tomorrow.” The theme emphasizes that play is not just a leisure activity but a fundamental right and developmental necessity for children.
The conference aims to empower women to harness their unique influence in nurturing and advocating for children’s needs. It will explore how equipping women with leadership skills and resources can enhance efforts to cultivate resilient and empowered children, who will be better prepared to face future challenges through play and recreation.
Given the current economic and social tensions, particularly in Africa, and the overwhelming dominance of digital devices that often confine children to screens, the conference organizers believe this is an opportune moment to emphasize the importance of play in children’s lives. The event seeks to create awareness and promote strategies that enable women to foster a brighter, more resilient future for the next generation.
