President Bola Tinubu has implemented new guidelines restricting ministers and heads of Federal Government agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. No additional vehicles will be allocated for their movement.
The directive, which aims to cut government expenditure, was communicated in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, “The cost-cutting measure was announced today in a statement signed by the President.”
This move follows President Tinubu’s earlier efforts to reduce government spending, which included limiting his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and reducing local trip entitlements to 25 officials. The Vice President’s entourage was also scaled back to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local ones.
In addition to vehicle restrictions, President Tinubu has mandated that all ministers and agency heads will have a maximum of five security personnel assigned to them. This security team will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). The President emphasized, “No additional security personnel will be assigned.”
