TROOPS OF OPERATION UDOKA ARREST NOTORIOUS IPOB/ESN TERRORIST LEADERS IN SOUTHEAST NIGERIA

In the ongoing effort to combat insecurity in Nigeria, troops from Operation Udoka have successfully identified and arrested key leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Imo and Abia States. The operation led to the capture of Pius Iguh, a founding member of the ESN in Orsu, Imo State, and Emmanuel Onwugu, another IPOB commander in Mbano, Abia State.

During the operations, the military neutralized 24 terrorists, arrested 12 violent extremists, and rescued one kidnapping victim. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the troops recovered significant armaments, including:

  • 10 AK47 rifles
  • 15 pump-action guns
  • 4 locally fabricated guns
  • 153 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
  • 111 live cartridges
  • 2 vehicles
  • 4 mobile phones

All recovered items and arrested individuals have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The operations took place between October 15 and 19, 2024, across various locations in the Southeast, including Orsu, Obubra, and Arochukwu. The military continues to engage with threats from IPOB/ESN and is committed to restoring peace and security in the region.
