Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has clarified his decision to suspend the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Bemsen Mnyim, for failing to align with the administration’s policies. The suspension, announced Wednesday, followed allegations that Mnyim involved the state in a lawsuit with other governments seeking to proscribe the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Governor Alia expressed his disapproval of the Commissioner’s actions, emphasizing that Benue has been financially deprived by previous administrations and the state is actively seeking resources to drive development. He found it contradictory that Mnyim would support a suit against institutions like the EFCC and ICPC, which are assisting Benue in recovering stolen funds.
Alia stated, “Why would we take the EFCC to court for proscription when they are helping our state recover resources? This is not the position of Benue State.”
He emphasized the importance of communication within the government, stressing that no official should act independently on such matters without consulting the administration.
Mnyim’s suspension serves as a stern warning to government officials who act without adhering to the administration’s standards.
