PLAN INTERNATIONAL HANDS OVER RENOVATED PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTERS TO SOKOTO STATE GOVERNMENT

On Tuesday, PLAN International, a non-governmental organization, officially handed over seven renovated Primary Health Care (PHC) Centers to the Sokoto State government during a ceremony held at PHC Arkilla, Sokoto State.

Commitment to Healthcare Access

PLAN International is registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission and focuses on driving changes in practice and policy at local, national, and global levels through its extensive reach, experience, and knowledge.

In his opening remarks, the Country Director of PLAN International, Usie Charles, represented by Dr. Helen Isiong, expressed the organization’s determination to eliminate barriers preventing communities, particularly young girls and women, from accessing essential healthcare services. He emphasized the importance of providing relevant healthcare to help individuals thrive and achieve their goals.

“It is our responsibility and appreciation to particularly thank the Ministry of Health, which has always provided guidance on how this can be achieved,” Charles stated. He highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting the Sokoto State government’s plans, particularly those aimed at increasing access to healthcare services for all genders.

Ongoing Support and Collaboration

Dr. Charles assured that PLAN International would continue to implement programs in Sokoto State in collaboration with their partners and donors, working towards fulfilling the government’s objectives under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

“We are ready to support him towards delivering the objectives of the government,” he affirmed.

State Government’s Response

In response to the handover, the Commissioner for Health in Sokoto State, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, expressed gratitude on behalf of the benefiting communities. She acknowledged PLAN International Nigeria’s generous efforts in rehabilitating and equipping the seven health facilities across the state, which aligns with the state government’s nine-point agenda for strengthening health service delivery.

Balarabe further mentioned that Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu has committed to ensuring that each ward has a functional Primary Health Care Center to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly for women and children.
