The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with the Trade Modernization Project, is poised to launch a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system aimed at enhancing its operational efficiency.

During a recent event at Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) in Lagos, Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi highlighted that the deployment of this system is a significant component of the NCS’s reform efforts. He stated that the initiative is designed to improve efficiency and align Nigerian customs operations with international standards.

Adeniyi announced the development of a homegrown ICT system, named “B’Odogwu,” which the NCS plans to eventually export globally. He described the rollout of the Unified Customs Management System as a major milestone in the modernization of customs operations in Nigeria.

“This initiative builds on the NCS Management’s policy direction under my leadership, which focuses on consolidating past achievements while adopting innovative solutions to long-standing challenges,” Adeniyi noted.

He also acknowledged the crucial support from the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy in advancing the various initiatives, including the launch of B’Odogwu.

The Customs boss pointed out that the deployment of this new system is legally supported by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, specifically citing sections 28 and 29, which empower the NCS to develop and manage electronic systems for enhanced operational capabilities.
