The Imo State government has strongly condemned a report circulating on social media, which falsely claims that a Supreme Court judge apologized for the court’s ruling on the Imo governorship case five years ago. The Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, dismissed the report as “irresponsible and unreasonable,” labeling it as an attempt to tarnish Governor Hope Uzodimma’s reputation.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri, Emelumba characterized the report as part of a smear campaign orchestrated by political opponents. “The fake news being circulated on social media is a failed attempt to undermine the credibility of Governor Uzodimma,” he stated, adding that the report lacked any credible details, such as the name of the judge or the event where the alleged apology occurred.

Emelumba emphasized that the opposition has repeatedly failed in their efforts to discredit the governor, including challenging the 2019 Supreme Court ruling and subsequent elections in which Uzodimma prevailed. He urged the public to disregard the “tissues of lies” being spread, blaming the opposition and social media platforms for disseminating unverified information.

“The circulation of this fake news reflects the desperation of those who cannot accept defeat and are threatened by Governor Uzodimma’s rising national political stature,” Emelumba concluded.
