Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has called on councilors and local government chairmen to take an active role in overseeing the implementation of government development projects in their wards. Speaking during an onboarding program for the newly elected 260 ward councilors, Mbah emphasized the need for intensive monitoring and accountability to ensure that contractors adhere to quality standards and project timelines.

The program, which focused on the state’s Smart Green Schools and Primary Healthcare Centres initiative, is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic growth and productivity in Enugu. Mbah highlighted the importance of these projects, stating that the 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres being built across the state are crucial to creating a skilled workforce and ensuring public health for optimal productivity.

He urged the councilors and chairmen to take ownership of these projects, reminding them that they have a responsibility to future generations. “You all have a duty. We have to see ourselves as trustees holding our future in trust for our offspring and for the generations ahead,” Mbah said.

Mbah also noted that Enugu State’s goal to grow its economy from N4.4 billion to N30 billion would require contributions from all 17 local government areas and 260 wards. He encouraged local government officials to attract industries to their areas and play a role in industrializing their respective LGAs.

Several councilors expressed their gratitude for the onboarding program, noting that it had helped them better understand their roles in ensuring the success of the administration’s projects.
