Barely one hour into an expanded meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF), the forum issued a disclaimer regarding circulating reports that its Chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, or his associates had initiated legal action against the party in Gusau, Zamfara State.

The disclaimer was released in a statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Director General of the PDP-GF, in Abuja. In the statement, Agbo clarified, “The attention of the PDP Governors’ Forum, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and all the member Governors of the Forum, has been drawn to an online publication suggesting that the Bauchi Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum filed a suit at the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Gusau Judicial Division, seeking an ex parte order to compel the convening of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.”

He went on to emphasize that the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum has no involvement, either directly or indirectly, with the purported suit. “For emphasis, our teeming supporters and all Nigerians are urged to ignore the false claim that the Chairman of the Forum or any of its members instigated any legal proceedings regarding the above,” Agbo added. He described the publication as “dubious, malicious, and intended to smear the character of Governor Bala Mohammed.”

Reports had emerged that some party members, allegedly acting on the behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed, had approached a Federal High Court in Gusau, seeking an interim injunction to compel the party to hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as scheduled on Thursday.

This disclaimer comes on the heels of a recent call by the PDP Governors for party members engaged in legal actions against the party to withdraw such cases to facilitate genuine reconciliation. Earlier, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had issued a ruling on a matter brought by party members in Yobe State, home to the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, restraining the party’s NEC and the Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum from office until December 2025.
