President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian motorists to opt for petrol priced at N1000 per liter or switch to compressed natural gas (CNG) available at N200. This announcement was made during a meeting with executives from NIPCO at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Tinubu praised NIPCO for its contributions to the nation’s energy transition efforts, particularly its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). He acknowledged NIPCO’s pivotal role in promoting CNG as an alternative fuel source, emphasizing that such investments align with his administration’s goals of enhancing energy security and economic diversification.
The President highlighted the critical need for public-private partnerships in facilitating the transition to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions for Nigerians. He commended NIPCO’s “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has raised public awareness and provided affordable CNG conversion kits ahead of the official launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative.
Tinubu emphasized the benefits of CNG, noting that it reduces reliance on petrol and significantly lowers fuel costs for consumers. He stated, “CNG, being a cleaner and more affordable fuel, reduces the carbon footprint and saves consumers significant fuel costs.”
