The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has emphasized the Nigerian Army’s dedication to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s food security policies. This commitment was highlighted during the opening of the Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited (NAFARL) training workshop for 2024, held on Tuesday in Abuja.

The workshop, themed “Attaining Peace through Food Security: Nigeria Army Farms and Ranches Limited Perspective,” aims to enhance the army’s agricultural initiatives.

Represented by Maj.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, Chief of Transformations and Innovation, Lagbaja underscored the army’s focus on developing sustainable agricultural programs through effective farming and ranching. He noted that food security has become a priority for the army, aligning with the President’s directive to utilize available military land for agricultural development.

Lagbaja commended NAFARL for its successes in research and development, particularly in livestock breeding and refinement. He stated, “The Nigerian Army has already begun the review of all its agricultural policies to significantly boost crop production.”

Furthermore, he mentioned that partnerships with various Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and reputable agricultural institutions are being explored to strengthen NAFARL’s efforts. He expressed confidence that these collaborations would play a vital role in addressing the food insecurity challenges facing the nation.
