The House of Representatives Committee on Defence has pledged to ensure the effective utilisation of resources allocated to military colleges and institutions, including the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji.

Chairman Babajimi Benson made this statement during an oversight visit to the institutes in Kaduna, coinciding with the approach of the 2025 budget cycle. He emphasized that funds allocated to these institutions must contribute to enhancing training facilities, procuring advanced equipment, and fostering research and development initiatives.

Benson highlighted the necessity for the agencies to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability in their operations. He reassured that the National Assembly would enact sound legislation aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence sector by ensuring the effective use of funds.

The committee chairman noted that the visit was a critical part of the oversight process, expressing readiness to collaborate closely with the Armed Forces to ensure they are adequately equipped to meet upcoming challenges.

He further stated that the committee would support the institutes through responsible budget allocations and enabling policies. Through effective legislative oversight, lawmakers would hold these institutions accountable to the public.

Benson called for ongoing cooperation, open communication, and transparent reporting, urging the institutions to engage the committee continuously. He believes this partnership will help address challenges as they arise, ensure timely funding, and identify areas needing immediate attention.
