Nollywood actress Lolo has shared her concerns regarding what she sees as a trend of men stepping back from their traditional roles as providers within the family dynamic. Speaking on a recent episode of the Say My Piece podcast, Lolo highlighted that gender roles have been entrenched in society for as long as patriarchy has existed, but evolving relationship dynamics are causing a significant shift.
Lolo stated, “I blame the patriarchy because these things have been in existence long before now when gender roles were defined. Part of the things that men categorically say make them men or heads of their homes is the fact that they’re the providers. I have been hearing that since I was a child—the daddy is the provider while the mother is a nurturer.”
Her comments reflect a growing conversation about the changing expectations and responsibilities within modern relationships, as traditional gender roles continue to be challenged.
