The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has scheduled an investigative public hearing for October 24 to address the ongoing issues of frequent grid collapses affecting the nation’s power supply.

In a statement on its Twitter account, NERC invited all stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the general public, to participate in the hearing, which will take place at its Hearing Room in Abuja.

NERC emphasized its responsibility to conduct public hearings on critical matters within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), as outlined in Section 48, subsection 1 of the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended). The commission expressed concern over the recent rise in grid disturbances, which have led to significant power outages across various states, undermining previous efforts to enhance grid stability and infrastructure.

The announcement follows a recent grid collapse that occurred on Monday, with power only restored by Tuesday. This incident marks the second collapse within a week and the seventh reported in 2024.
