In the early hours of Sunday, suspected cultists launched a deadly attack in Edeoha community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, leaving four people feared dead. The gunmen, believed to be members of the Iceland cult group, reportedly invaded the area around 2 a.m., armed with sophisticated weapons.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers began shooting sporadically and went door-to-door in search of their targets, ultimately killing four individuals. Three of the victims were natives of Edeoha, while the fourth hailed from Ekata, another community within the local government area, though he resided in Edeoha.

Local sources claim that the attackers came from a nearby community to carry out the killings, although the motive remains unclear, as the victims were reportedly not involved in cult activities.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating: “Yes, I can confirm the incident; it is cult-related. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha, has directed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to begin an investigation into the attack, with the aim of apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face justice.”
