In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NSF, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua (APC, Katsina Central), the Forum congratulated General Gowon on his 90th birthday. They acknowledged his pivotal role in steering Nigeria into a new era following the civil war, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to peace and stability.

“General Gowon’s leadership has left an indelible mark on our nation, and his legacy continues to inspire us,” the statement read. The NSF highlighted several of General Gowon’s notable achievements, including the creation of states in 1967, which replaced the regional arrangement, and the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote unity and national integration among Nigerian youths.

Yar’adua expressed that “General Gowon’s wisdom and experience remain a beacon of hope for our country,” and offered prayers for his continued good health and guidance in Nigeria’s progress. The Northern Senators Forum wished General Gowon many more years filled with health, happiness, and ongoing service to Nigeria.
